Woody Harrelson’s Missed Tesla Opportunity: An Expensive Remorse

A Celeb’s Investment Fumble

Woody Harrelson candidly confessed that declining to invest in Elon Musk‘s groundbreaking electric vehicle venture, Tesla Inc. , remains one of his most significant investment blunders to date as shared in a recent interview.

The Lost Opportunity

What Transpired: As per an interview with Marketwatch released on Friday, Harrelson revealed that he had an opening to invest in Tesla before the company went public.

During the encounter, one of Musk’s associates visited Harrelson at his residence driving an ultra-sleek, high-speed car and offered him a chance to invest in the company. Regrettably, Harrelson declined the opportunity at the time and now acknowledges it as one of his major investment missteps. Despite passing on the chance to invest in Tesla, the actor shared that it is just one of the numerous regrets he holds.

“This guy came up to the house and he had this really fancy, superfast car. Almost like a race car. Not an actual race car, but it was like a Ferrari-type car and it was super fast. We took a ride in it. He’s like, ‘You want to invest [in the company]?’ And I’m like, ‘Nah, I don’t think so.'”

The “Ferrari-type car” mentioned by Harrelson in the interview presumably alludes to the company’s inaugural vehicle – the original 2008 Roadster.

The Significance

Founded in 2003, Tesla went public in 2010. The company’s shares debuted on the Nasdaq stock exchange on Jun. 29, 2010, closing at a split-adjusted price of $1.59.

By Friday, Tesla shares had closed at $214.11, indicating a staggering 135-fold surge in value since its listing. The company’s share price even soared beyond $400 in November 2021.
