The Breakthrough
Keysight Technologies Inc. has revealed an unprecedented training and validation solution designed for neural receivers in partnership with NVIDIA Corporation. This cutting-edge 6G neural receiver design flow provides advanced tools and insights to seamlessly integrate AI capabilities into mainstream wireless communication networks. Unlike the integration of AI into 5G, which aimed to enhance specific wireless network components, the upcoming 6G technology will be the first generation of wireless technology to be AI-based.
Challenges and Solutions
While 5G incorporated AI to improve certain wireless network components, the accurate performance assessment of neural receivers within an end-to-end system has proven to be challenging due to the required training data’s scarcity. Keysight, however, has met this challenge head-on by leveraging the NVIDIA Sionna library to generate site-specific training data and craft digital twins of real-world networks.
Following the training process, the neural receiver is deployed within an open RAN testbed. To emulate site-specific channels, Keysight employs the PROPSIM channel emulator, a platform that offers the industry’s widest signal bandwidth and effectively overcomes testing complexities linked to next-generation technologies such as 5G, WIFI, and advanced communication systems.
A Leap Forward
Keysight’s solution ensures the smooth integration of ray-traced channel impulse responses, with the trained neural receiver adeptly demodulating the signal. This allows for the efficient evaluation of the end-to-end system’s block error rate, offering vital insights into the neural receiver’s performance. This marks a significant stride toward Keysight’s objective of replacing the human-designed receive chain of physical layers with site-specific neural receivers.
Market Potential and Portfolios
The global 6G market is expected to gain substantial traction in the coming years. The introduction of this innovative neural receiver evolution technology will bolster Keysight’s portfolio and position the company to capitalize on significant market potential. Keysight already boasts a robust 5G portfolio, offering telecom and semiconductor companies a range of product design validation solutions.
Beyond its strength in the 5G domain, Keysight is projected to benefit from the surging adoption of electronic content in vehicles, momentum in space and satellite applications, and the rising global uptake of driver-assistance systems. The company is gaining traction with robust industry-wide growth, witnessing solid adoption of its electronic design and testing solutions, which are in high demand due to the increasing adoption of electronic devices in IoT services, wireless devices, data centers, and 5G technologies.
